I actually finished this on Tuesday, but I only just got around to taking a photo [it's A2 size, so my scanner won't take it, obviously] and making it look vaguely presentable since photos tend to mess it up a bit. Click for a bigger version.

McCain Hits Obama On Iran Again, Joe Klein Tells Him "Be Quiet"

Seriously. Republicans. Stop this. Stepping in isn't going to help. You want to "do the right thing"? Then keep out. Yes, America should "stand up for democracy", but sometimes to stand up for democracy you need to stand down. Sometimes the right thing is nothing at all. Right now this is Iranians questioning the Iranian government. But if we step in, it won't be that anymore. It'll be "Western puppets" against the Iranian government, and the government would be able to claim that this entire thing was just the West trying to get a president they didn't like out of power and sow distrust. Actually, they're already saying that and we haven't done anything yet but they're still using the idea of this being all the West's idea as an excuse to put down the opposition. Can you imagine what would happen if we actually did interfere? They'd have a reason to clamp done even more than they already are (which, I may add, you already think is too much), and may I refer you to America's record in past involvements with Iranian politics? The government - and that isn't just Obama, that's Congress too - needs to quiet down. You can condemn the handling, yes, but do not "support" the candidates. We just need to stay out of this.

And anyway, you say Obama isn't doing enough, but what would you have him do? Send a sternly-worded statement? A collective wagging of the finger? Or "bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran"? Obama isn't doing anything to help because he can't do anything to help.

Now, this isn't to say this is completely out of our hands, because it isn't. Individuals can - and are, trust me, completely are - help. We keep up the RTs, filtering out and sometimes shouting down the government impostors or trolls or idiots who have no idea what's going on, make proxies for protesters to use to transmit images and stories, get information to protesters like first aid to how to protect against tear gas to recognizing concussions, and we spread the word. We keep the world informed, because as Obama said, the world is watching.

sigh
Iran's Guardian Council has suggested that the number of votes collected in 50 cities surpass the number of people eligible to cast ballot in those areas... "Statistics provided by the candidates, who claim more than 100% of those eligible have cast their ballot in 80-170 cities are not accurate -- the incident has happened in only 50 cities," Kadkhodaei said. The spokesman, however, said that although the vote tally affected by such an irregularity could be over 3 million and the council could, at the request of the candidates, re-count the affected ballot boxes, "it has yet to be determined whether the possible change in the tally is decisive in the election results."

You do realize that if you admit it's fraud in one place, no one is going to buy that it wasn't in others, right?

~THE ONTD_P IRANIAN FRIENDING MEME~

written by [info]mcollinknight and hosted by [info]rii_namuras

Okay, so a bunch of us have been following the post-election fallout in Iran all week, and we noticed that a lot of people were expressing dismay and concern over their family, friends, flist, and acquaintances' lack of knowledge or concern for the situation. We thought we'd make a friending meme so that we can find other like-minded people to discuss this with on livejournal, find other ljers in our areas, and make our flists a more aware place.

And if you want to pimp: [if someone wants to suggest better code that's fine~]

And I smile,
tightening my grip.
He stands across from me,
and I see him do the same

as we wait, for though
we know the possible
movements, the best
manner of advance,

still we wait, for
best is not guaranteed,
and with surprise the worst
may in time become

the winning stroke.
And so we both
consider carefully,
not quite daring,

not yet.
I see him slip
a foot forward
cautiously,

so that’s how it was
going to go. I move
in the same way,
as a mirror, and his

eyes narrow.
Suspicion. I like it.
Things are beginning
to look good. But I cannot

claim victory now,
not now, while our
swords are still there at
our sides, still waiting silently

for the decision,
that moment when
we burst forward,
and they reach

for the other. And then
his eyes flash, I brace
my feet against the ground.
And I smile.

seriously guys there is a trend here.

Me and some lovely folks from [info]ontd_political are compiling information about the Iranian Election on Tumblr, because it's unlikely that Iran's blocked that yet. Right now we just have first aid and proxy information up, but we're working on timelines/background info/ect as I type this.

edit: the one linked above is resources for Iranians or international people who want to help. We're going to set up a separate Tumblr with the other information once we've collected it all.

1) I will list all of my original characters.
2) Pick a character and ask any five questions about him/her. Be sure to specify whether you would like responses to be OOC or IC.
3) Fun ensues!

Yeah, I'm just going to list the ones you might know about. )

Summer break is still two weeks away, but exams are about done and thus we've finished the brunt of the work. Which means: time to scan in note sketches! I actually don't have that many this year, because most of my teachers hate that so I only did it in the little five minute breaks and stuff. Really, the only subjects I sketched in were French and History, so here's a bunch of scans from each, separated by subject, and a bonus piece I just finished:

French )

History )

OKAY WATCHING COUNTDOWN REAL QUICK POINT HERE MSNBC.

DADT. You hate it. I know. It makes no sense and stuff.

BUT. It is a ~*law*~. That means we have to obey it. Now, it is still stupid, and should not be a law.

But it still is. Obama can't just tell the military to screw this and stop firing gay people. Well, he can, but it would be really bad. Because, you see, this is very Dicator-ish. Being President of the United States does not give him permission to just disregard the law. I know technically as Commander in Chief he has the permission to bypass it at least temporarily, but you need to look at the principle of the thing. If he can ignore this law, can he ignore other laws? Where does it stop?

If you want to get rid of DADT, you have to go through Congress. I know, I know, they're slow, but that's what you get for living in a free, democratic state. You can't just pick and choose what laws you want while disregarding what the other guys want. And in order to make sure you don't disregard anyone, there needs to be a discussion and debate between the democratically elected representatives. Which is slow. Nothing about it happened at all during the last eight years because we know Bush would never sign it, but now we have a President who has said he absolutely will, so we need to take him up on that. The ball's in Congress' court now.

Which will also take time, because, guys, things are crazy right now. There just isn't enough time to do anything, and while firing a bunch of Arabic translators is admittedly really kinda crazy, Obama's just trying to keep our entire financial system from imploding right now. Now there are those guys who also kinda want to kill us, and keeping DADT in effect is really doing nothing for our chances militarily, Obama's been compensating for this by trying to, y'know, improve foreign relations and stuff. Which may not work, but at least he's trying, okay?

So. WE'LL GET RID OF DADT AND WE'LL DO IT LEGALLY. BE PATIENT MSNBC GUYS, AND YOU'LL GET THAT HAPPY ENDING FOR YOUR GAY ARABIC TRANSLATORS.

Also Anderson Cooper doing a Palin impression and then completely denying it two seconds later. Made my day.

On the June 4 edition of his Fox News show, Sean Hannity stated that in his June 4 speech in Cairo, President Obama "decided to give 9-11 sympathizers a voice on the world stage," then aired a cropped video clip of Obama saying, "I am aware that there are still some that would question or even justify the events of 9-11." However, the context of Obama's comments makes clear that Obama was condemning those who would "justify the events of 9-11"...

Media Matters for America has documented a pattern in which Fox News hosts and correspondents -- including Hannity -- have on dozens of occasions cropped comments by progressives and Democratic political figures in a manner that misrepresents them.
While I think having to do an actual study on this is pretty stupid and also pretty telling of our times, this is why I don't watch Fox. Normally I'd be fine with watching a conservative - even an ultra conservative - network because I'm perfectly okay listening to opinions I normally disagree with, but I'm really not okay listening to blatant misrepresentations of the truth used as basis for opinion. You can have your own opinion, but at least have the decency to have a valid reason for that opinion. And if you constantly need to twist things to make them look good for you, you might have a reason to worry about your viewpoints.

Now I'm not saying Fox is the only place that does this, because it isn't. Plenty of other networks are completely partisan. I watch Countdown, okay? I see this in liberal networks too, it's just that... Fox. Come on. You don't even do it sneaky-like. You cut off a quote the exact second before Obama started refuting your point! I think it's pretty safe to say that people are going to actually watch at least more than five minutes of the speech [or watch both sides' highlights - if you take just watch either the conservative or liberal selections, I think you have more things to worry about], and notice you did that.

Oh, and when one of your hosts was upset Obama said nothing about democracy, when it was kinda sorta one of his big points? Not even taking the time to read the entire speech makes you look really bad.

this and this make me sick. I don't care if you think he's a Nazi or a murderer or whatever, that does not give you permission to go and murder him. Has it ever been okay to take the law into your own hands? If someone decided to try and take out a serial killer, people'd think whoever it was was crazy, yet somehow this is fine and rational? Also, Dr. Tiller was killed while working as an usher in his church. He was killed in church. Don't you see something wrong with that statement?
